The Samyang MF 100mm F2.8 Macro lens is a classic portrait focal length, while also delivering wonderful close-ups.
Used on an APS-C camera, an image angle of 15.4° is effective, which roughly corresponds to the image impression of a 150 mm lens at full format. The very useful speed of f/2.8 does not change. It not only provides an extremely bright viewfinder, but also the option of directing the viewer's attention through working with the shallowest depth of field. The lens is very well corrected and convinces through a very high and distortion-free imaging performance. Of course, all lens surfaces are multicoated to increase the contrast of the images and to avoid reflections. Everything is rounded off by precise mechanics and clearly latching aperture values in a high-quality metal frame. The manual focus moves comfortably and easily.
internal focusing
The lens is equipped with an internal focusing system. Lens groups are shifted internally, the overall length of the optics does not change, nor does the front rotate when focusing. Thus, gradient and polarization filters can easily stay applied (size 67 mm).
Optical construction
15 lens elements in 12 groups testify to an enormous technical effort that was undertaken to obtain a very good and powerful optical system. In spite of the average image angle, there are hardly any aberrations visible, even at full aperture.
Advantages of a full frame lens on a camera with APS-C sensor (or smaller)
Save time in post-processing: A variety of lens defects such as distortion, blur, or vignetting appear on the edges of the image. If you use a full-frame lens on a camera with an APS-C sensor, these areas will not be used in the first place. Thus, you automatically get the maximum quality and no additional time for correcting lens errors needs needs to be invested in post-processing.
