Developed for videography and photography
With the Samyang 8/3.1 Fisheye VCSC you are equipped for both video and photo without having to convert your camera. The aperture is steplessly adjustable, minimizing exposure transitions. The aperture ring and focus ring are equipped with a gear rim and are therefore optimized for use with Follow Focus systems. Lens for APS cameras!
Exceptional design possibilities
Whether panorama and landscape photography with unique effects - thanks to the special depth of field and an image angle of 180° there are no limits to your creativity. The Samyang 8/3.1 Fisheye VCSC gives photographers and filmmakers a wide range of design options. Straight lines that are not in the center of the image are displayed as falling lines, the distortion is strongly barrel-shaped. This special type of lens has a particularly short focal length of 8 mm for its image format size, whereby the image is reproduced with arched shapes. Thus, pictures taken with the Samyang Fish-Eye get their typical spherically distorted perspective. Focusing and aperture adjustment are done manually.
Excellent optical construction
All 11 glass lenses of the lens are multi-coated and thus provide an excellent contrast and sharpness range as well as a balanced color balance. Thanks to the use of three ED (extra low dispersion) and two aspherical lenses, chromatic aberrations and spherical aberrations are corrected. The particularly high-quality optics of the lens ensure optimum image results. The high speed of T/3.1 enables excellent images even in less favourable lighting conditions. A fixed lens hood prevents lateral light and lens reflections. The lens is suitable for system cameras and is therefore particularly light and handy.
Using an APS-C lens on a camera with full-frame sensor
Some lenses developed for cameras with APS-C sensors can also be used on cameras with full-format sensors (mainly by using an adapter). Due to the significantly smaller image circle of APS-C lenses, the sensor area outside the image circle is black. The usable area of the image photographed with a full format camera thus equals that of a camera with an APS-C sensor and is correspondingly smaller. Therefore, the images have to be trimmed during post processing. In the video field, this method requires framing in post-production. The use of APS-C lenses on full frame cameras is therefore possible, but not recommended.
Why the aperture is sometimes given in T
In photography, the abbreviation "f" is used for aperture (from "focal length"). The given value indicates the ratio between focal length and entrance pupil at the lens. In film and video, on the other hand, the abbreviation "T", which stands for "transmission", is used. This value is calculated from the aperture f and the loss of light in the individual lens. It indicates the net brightness of the image that hits the sensor. This makes it possible to change the lens when filming: As long as the "T-Stop" is selected the same for both, it is guaranteed that two shots filmed with different lenses of the same scene are equally bright. Thus, there are no jumps in brightness when they are edited together.
