Unique shots
This fisheye lens from Samyang offers a completely new view of things. There are no limits to creativity thanks to the unusual perspective. Whether in panoramic or landscape photography or even in the most confined spaces, the Samyang fisheye can produce brilliant panoramic shots. Due to the special depth of field and the angle of view of 167° on the Canon camera, all possibilities are open to the experimental photographer.
High quality workmanship
The focal length of only 8 mm allows a close-up limit of 30 cm. Exciting wide-angle images can be captured with brilliant sharpness. The high speed of f/3.5 allows for excellent images even in less favourable lighting conditions. The lens is optimized for DSLR cameras with APS-C sensors. A lens hood prevents light from entering from the side as well as lens reflections. The glass elements of the lens are coated with Samyang's own Ultra-Multi-Coating UMC, which provides excellent contrast and sharpness. The optical design consists of 7 groups of 10 elements, including an aspherical hybrid lens (H-ASP). The particularly high-quality optics of the lens ensure optimum image results with balanced colour representation.
New options for image composition
With this Samyang fisheye lens, photographers get a lot of different design possibilities. All lines that cross the center of the image stay straight. All other lines are distorted, overall in a strong barrel-shape. This is used for various effects (e.g. globe effect or insect eye effect with their typical, spherically distorted perspective).
Using an APS-C lens on a camera with full-frame sensor
Some lenses developed for cameras with APS-C sensors can also be used on cameras with full-format sensors (mainly by using an adapter). Due to the significantly smaller image circle of APS-C lenses, the sensor area outside the image circle is black. The usable area of the image photographed with a full format camera thus equals that of a camera with an APS-C sensor and is correspondingly smaller. Therefore, the images have to be trimmed during post processing. In the video field, this method requires framing in post-production. The use of APS-C lenses on full frame cameras is therefore possible, but not recommended.
