Expressive and high-intensity landscape photography
The Samyang 16 mm f/2.0 lens with 80° image angle is not only ideal for expressive landscape shots but also as a universal wide-angle and documentary lens thanks to its large depth of field. The high light intensity of f/2.0 enables safe working even in unfavourable lighting conditions for optimal shots with sufficient light reserves. The image angle of 80° is easily illuminated by many system flashes. (80° corresponds almost to 24 mm for 35 mm format). The close-up limit of 20 cm offers reserves for dynamic close-ups with an expressive background. Focusing and aperture adjustment are manual.
Complex optical design for outstanding image quality
The very good imaging performance is achieved by an elaborate optical design with 13 multi-coated glass lenses. Two of them are aspherically ground (ASP), two others are made of high refractive ED glass (extra low dispersion). By using these types of glass, colour and opening errors are corrected almost perfectly, which results in excellent image quality. The multi-coated lenses also prevent reflections, which you will notice in the overall contrast of the image. Finally, the color rendering will be much more brilliant than when using single-coated lenses.
Very high quality workmanship
The metal frame is very robust and convinces by its elegant appearance. In addition to the high-quality optics, the removable lens hood, which prevents stray light from entering from the side and lens reflections, ensures optimum image results and further design options. The front mount has a filter thread with a diameter of 77 mm.
Using an APS-C lens on a camera with full-frame sensor
Some lenses developed for cameras with APS-C sensors can also be used on cameras with full-format sensors (mainly by using an adapter). Due to the significantly smaller image circle of APS-C lenses, the sensor area outside the image circle is black. The usable area of the image photographed with a full format camera thus equals that of a camera with an APS-C sensor and is correspondingly smaller. Therefore, the images have to be trimmed during post processing. In the video field, this method requires framing in post-production. The use of APS-C lenses on full frame cameras is therefore possible, but not recommended.
