Developed for videography and photography
With the Samyang wide angle lens, you are equipped for both video and photography, without the need for time-consuming retrofitting of your camera. The aperture can be steplessly adjusted, allowing changes in exposure to be smoothly made even during the take. The aperture ring and focus rings are equipped with a toothed ring and are therefore optimized for use with Follow Focus systems. Please note, the lens provides an APS-C image circle!
Expressive and bright landscape photography
The Samyang 16 mm T/2.2 APS-C with its focal length of 16 mm is ideal for expressive landscape shots and as a documentary lens thanks to its large field of view and great depth of field. The high light intensity of T/2.2 enables short exposure times even in unfavourable lighting conditions and is therefore also ideally suited for indoor use. Focusing and aperture adjustment are done manually. The close-up distance is 20 cm.
Complex optical design for outstanding image quality
An elaborate optical design with 13 multi-coated glass lenses, two of which are aspherical, ensures a particularly high imaging performance. Thanks to the use of ED glass, colour and aberration errors are compensated so that no disturbing colour fringes occur and high image quality is guaranteed. The multi-coated lenses prevent reflections and thus provide the image with more light. In addition, the coating also increases the contrast and produces a more brilliant colour rendering.
Very high quality workmanship
The metal housing is very robust and convinces with its elegant appearance. In addition to the high-quality optics, the removable lens hood, which prevents stray light from entering from the side and lens reflections, ensures optimum image results. The filter thread has a diameter of 77 mm.
Using an APS-C lens on a camera with full-frame sensor
Some lenses developed for cameras with APS-C sensors can also be used on cameras with full-format sensors (mainly by using an adapter). Due to the significantly smaller image circle of APS-C lenses, the sensor area outside the image circle is black. The usable area of the image photographed with a full format camera thus equals that of a camera with an APS-C sensor and is correspondingly smaller. Therefore, the images have to be trimmed during post processing. In the video field, this method requires framing in post-production. The use of APS-C lenses on full frame cameras is therefore possible, but not recommended.
Why the aperture is sometimes given in T
In photography, the abbreviation "f" is used for aperture (from "focal length"). The given value indicates the ratio between focal length and entrance pupil at the lens. In film and video, on the other hand, the abbreviation "T", which stands for "transmission", is used. This value is calculated from the aperture f and the loss of light in the individual lens. It indicates the net brightness of the image that hits the sensor. This makes it possible to change the lens when filming: As long as the "T-Stop" is selected the same for both, it is guaranteed that two shots filmed with different lenses of the same scene are equally bright. Thus, there are no jumps in brightness when they are edited together.
