Versatile wide-angle with fast lens speed
The Samyang 35/1.4 lens is the ideal focal length, ready to shoot reportage. In combination with an 85 mm it is always the right combination: overview and detail. The outstanding advantage of the 35 mm is its freedom from distortion: it puts more image on the sensor, but the distortion or receding perspective typical of wide-angle lenses still does not occur. The very high aperture of 1.4 allows for up to 3 stops of reserve compared to a standard varifocal lens. The light intensity is also visible in the brightness of the viewfinder, which provides setting reliability. The very shallow depth of field at open aperture facilitates pinpoint focusing.
Internal focusing
The lens is equipped with internal focusing. Lens groups are shifted internally, the overall length of the optics does not change, nor does the front mount rotate when focusing. Graduated and polarising filters can therefore be easily attached (size 77 mm).
Optical construction
12 lens elements in 10 groups testify to an enormous effort to achieve very good optics. One lens is aspherically ground, 2 others have highly refractive glass. Despite the medium angle of view, hardly any aberrations are visible even at full aperture.
Built-in chip
A chip built into the lens makes it possible to work with exposure or programme automatic. In addition, EXIF data such as aperture, ISO value or exposure time are transferred.
Note: When using the lens with a Canon autofocus DSLR , the aperture is selected and controlled by the camera. The EXIF data is also reported to the camera. The modes time/aperture and programme automatic can be used. Focusing is purely manual.
Advantages of a full-frame lens on a camera with an APS-C sensor
Save time in post-processing. A lot of lens aberrations like distortion, edge blur or vignetting occur on the outer areas of the image. If you use a lens calculated for full format on a camera with an APS-C sensor, these areas are not used. This way you get the maximum quality. Additional post-processing time to correct lens errors is therefore not necessary.
