Optimal image angle - beautiful portraits
The 85mm lens is an ideal focal length, it provides concentration on the essentials. On a full-frame camera, its 29° angle of view provides the optimum concentration on the motif. If the 85/1.4 is attached to a 4/3 camera, an angle of view of 14.4° is achieved, which roughly corresponds to the image impression of a 170 mm lens. And that at 1.4 aperture. This very practice-oriented speed of 1.4 never changes, which provides not only an extremely bright viewfinder, but also the possibility of the separation of subject and background through a shallow depth of field. Superior lens speed
Due to its high speed, this Walimex pro lens allows the use of the shortest exposure times or lower ISO values. Thereby the image noise on digital cameras is considerably reduced. The large aperture with a shallower depth of field optimizes the position of the focal plane in the viewfinder. A practical secondary benefit of the high light intensity is the emphasis of the subject against a blurred foreground or background.
High quality optics and mechanics
The lens is equipped with internal focusing, offers minimum focusing distance of 1 meter. With 9 lenses in 7 groups it is very elaborately built. This results in optimum performance even with the aperture open. When focusing, lens elements are moved inside: the overall length of the optics does not change and the 72mm filter thread does not rotate during focusing. The iris diaphragm has 8 blades and a virtually circular aperture pattern. The blur is reproduced harmoniously with a fine bokeh. Of course, all lens surfaces are multicoated to increase the contrast of the images and to avoid reflections. Everything is rounded off by precise mechanics, clearly latching aperture values and production in a high-quality metal frame.
Advantages of a full frame lens on a camera with APS-C sensor
Save time in post-processing. A variety of lens defects such as distortion, edge blur, or vignetting appear on the outside of the image. If you use a full-frame lens on a camera with an APS-C sensor, these areas will not be used. Thus, the maximum quality is obtained. Additional post-processing time for the correction of lens errors is therefore not necessary.
